Why purchase hand painted porcelain or glass?

Why buy hand painted porcelain? Hand painted porcelain and glass is highly valued by collectors and is considered a fine art. Historically, hand painted porcelain appreciates in value over time. Hand painted china can be found at prestigeous auction houses and is coveted by collectors around the globe. Many of these beautiful collections are often passed onto heirs in an estate. Rarely, will you find good hand painted china in flea markets or garage sales.

How to check for hand painted vs. decals.

If you want to check the authenticity of handpainted china, view the work with magnifiying glass. If a decal was applied, you will see the small dots used in the printing process. Authentic, hand painted china usually doesn't have these dots. An exception would be if a painter will use a decals with overglaze paints as part of the design. If a decal is used on any items in this store the caption will clearly state that a decal was used as part of the design.

The Painting Process in the Studio
All of our porcelain and glass is painted with the process described below

These ceramic tiles are hand-painted using an on-glaze porcelain paint and a multi-fire technique that employs the use of an electric kiln to bond the paint to the glaze. Paint is brushed onto the glass or porcelain surface initially using light colors and gradually building up the painting with darker colors eventually adding defining details on the final fire. As each layer of paint is applied, the artwork is fired which bonds the paint permanently to the surface. Each artwork is fired four or five times. The number of firings depends on the complexity of the design. Multiple firings allows the artist to achieve greater depth and fascinating detail unequaled by other mediums.
